UNILAG STUDENTS PROTEST AGAINST NEW NAME

President Goodluck Jonathan,in celebrating this year's democracy day,has decided to rename the University of Lagos Akoka to Moshood Abiola University of Lagos in memory of the Late MKO Abiola.

However, this isnt going down well with students of the university of lagos,as they have hit the streets in lagos.

  1. I think Re-naming a National Institution in someone's name should be an honor reserved for people who have made significant contributions to the progress or development of their country or made some form of sacrifice for their country. Abiola's death was unfortunate but the reality is that thousands of Nigerians, famous and ordinary citizens alike, are gunned down and blown up everyday in Nigeria and institutions are not named after them. Abiola was robbed of his mandate and killed, a very sad story...but it is in no way sadder than the thousands of nameless/faceless Nigerians who are victims of robberies and murders. Until anyone can point out Abiola's monumental contribution or sacrifice to Nigeria, UNILAG should remain UNILAG.
